Lisa,
One the reasons my project to help trafficking victims had been shelved was I felt that my own purposes and reasons for engaging the project needed to be clearly understood by me. I had to have an appreciation of the distinction before I decided to help.
I did not mean to scare you with last night’s episode but was feeling glad that a child was able to truly smile and see daylight for the first time in almost three years. When I said “underground” it was literally a dungeon. The project would not have happened if the dedicated folks who do this everyday had not cared and if I had not stopped to chat with one of them in the Courthouse hallway. I don’t know what to do next but I feel that I have something to offer. Today, a young girl who is a victim of human trafficking is being deported to her home in Africa, facing certain mutilation and death because the system failed her and she lacked the resources to fight the system for her very life. I cannot be a spectator in this arena and I quit tilting at windmills some years ago. Will you help me understand (he says, jumping off soapbox) ?
